Living Here

I.

Living here in the cream

of the Milky Way

in a solar system

perched awkwardly

in an outer band

spun out into space –

I dream.

II.

Living here among matter

dark, desolate

ever mysterious

under heavy influence

of the sprinkling of stars –

I wander.

III.

Living here in a maze

made of galaxies

I dare not begin to count

millions of light years

away from my soul –

I seek.

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. Contemplating the vastness of the universe and its endless possibilities, it is awe inspiring when we decide to dream, to wander, and to seek. And to think that we can explore the infinite bounds of the universe inside the very finite space between our two ears – awesome indeed.

  2. I really love the imagery of the Milky Way, which conjures about white, contrasted with the the dark desolate matter in the second verse…the third verse seems to have colour to me….anyway LOL….I read your poem in colour…and then the deepness of the words…lovely ❤

  3. To dream, wander, and seek.. The life of an artist summed up with just 3 words, dream, wander, seek… Great read. Conflicting emotional growth.

  4. You have made a big leap into the vast ocean of imagery with this one
Thank you very much for following and opening the door to your exciting world. Eddie

  5. Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog, “oldsouls”, also apreciate the follow. Love this poem because it describes exactly how I feel, made me smile while I was reading. Already apreciated in your life time 🙂

  6. WOW, I like this one.

  7. For some reason your poem made me want to listen to Pink Floyd :-b

  8. Hi John, I love your poetry, and this particular one reminded me of a poem I was lucky enough to find in an old bookshop by the poet Francisco Matos Paoli in his book Song of Madness. YOur poem truly reminded me of his. Great job! and here it is:
    The Profound Truth

    My footprint has glittered
upon the depths of a distant
    star.

    My eyes have reached to
    the blue horizon
    where the singing dawn
    dreams
    of a bound love.

    And within the brief circle
    in which I live,
    truth
    is a star in orbit
    traversing my wounded
    body.

  9. Absolutely exquisite.
