My pieces may lie scattered,
discarded and many.
But while I am broken,
some value remains.
To repair, to mend
is the best course.
No sum of my parts,
whether whole or broken,
can ever measure me.
Save what can be salvaged,
discard what is lost,
to face remainder of days
with all I have.

About John White
I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.
Quite a powerful ‘stiff upper lip’ statement in this poem. Either ‘grin and bear it’ or a refusal to give in, either way something always drives us forward.
It could be hard headedness that propels us forward too. But, you’re right, whatever force gets us through it is the one we should lean on. Thanks for the comment!
Perseverance is among one of the human qualities that I admire most. The ability to remain strong in the face of what seeks to destroy us is wildly powerful. Great poem. ~B
Thank you, Brenda! One foot in front of the other – daily. It’s very much a mantra for me. I’m glad you enjoyed it. Great to meet you!
Wow. I was just going to write something like this. You said it for me. The good thing about being broken is the potential for building something better- once you have the strength. Until then, just gotta rest and heal.
Thank you Marisol! If the foundation is still in place rebuilding is one option and a way to build back better and stronger than before. I’m glad you liked it. Great to meet you!
Brilliant
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Very poignant. I reflect on your words, and see something of myself in there. Thank-you.
Thank you! It’s great to know that this poem was able to speak to you.
sometimes that’s the only thing left to do…thanks!
Yes it is. Agreed. Thanks for dropping by and commenting. Great to meet you!
Calm and strong…words of hope, perhaps after lost hope. I love this.
Thank you so much! Sometimes we find strength other times it’s a facade. We all lose parts of ourselves. It’s the attempt at getting by with what’s left that’s the hardest part. Great to meet you!
Reblogged this on CountMaxi's Blog.
Thank you for t he reblog!
A poem for building personal strength. I love it. Bravo!! ❤️🌟
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
At some point, we’ve all felt this way….some of us still feel it now…… and some will feel this way in future too…. Everything passes….
Strength to you!
It can pass but the hard part is fighting through it. Thanks for the comment!
Beautiful. Thank you for this gentle reminder today. Many thanks also for following my blog. I’m grateful. xo jules
Thank you, Jules! I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s great to meet you!
That is interesting. I had a friend who described his life like mirror that was laying on the floor shattered. He said that broken he is more than if he were whole. Your poem reminded me of that.

Thank you so much! Often, it’s in our perspective how we handle times when we feel down or broken. It’s great to meet you!
Splendid stoicism. Nice work.
Thank you, Mike! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Finely crafted. I did enjoy the lilting rhythm of the opening lines:
“My pieces may lie scattered,
discarded and many.
But while I am broken,
some value remains.”
Thanks, David! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
LoVe your work. Keep moving forward-broken or whole. Thanks for following my blog. Blessings.
Thank you so much! We must move forward no matter what. It’s great to meet you!
Likewise.

Thank you, Maria! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I think you may well be the missing part of my brain, it was left with a note with my name and address upon it, but guess you decided to keep & use it for a bit, because someone who could use such a treasure must be a right dozy shit. But imagine what we could achieve if both halves were reunited?
Actually, probably not, keep it, your welcome, just share any royalties 🙂
That’s funny. Great minds think alike or at least have synergy. Maybe we are brain brothers.
New to your site and thank you for the add and the great site.
Thank you for dropping by and for the comment. It’s great to meet you!
TWO WORDS: “Absolutely powerful.”
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
