Big Man

I.

Lording over the weak,

oppressing with power,

causing them to shrink

in submission.

II.

You feel like a big man,

you feel powerful,

you feel like the ruler

of all you purvey.

III.

You are none of this.

You are a weakling,

You are nothing, no one,

without the weak to prey on.

IV.

When everything is gone,

All good taken from you,

The tables will be turned –

You will become the weak.

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. A lesson to be remembered ☺. Nice

  2. Sounds as if these words are for the republican party… (sorry for the politics)…well said man
    Peace,
    Laz

  3. There used to be big men who actually could stand up to anyone. Now the majority cower behind closed doors. How times have changed. A very insightful poem!

  4. My thoughts about the massacre of children in Pakistan–the despicable excuses for men that went in with their big guns against the innocent. Big men.

  5. Very well written. Those placed in power often take advantage of those underneath them. Revenge is often taken out on the innocent.

  6. I love this. Everyone has a different image come to mind, all quite different and all easy to connect to the poem. For me, it was a bully. Beautiful work.

  7. Really nice John! Thanks for stopping by and checking out my first post, really appreciated! All the best, J

  8. It’s a really true feeling expressed in that poem. I think that men who call themselves big are exactly like how you have so artfully illustrated but those who sensible people consider big without themselves ever boasting or even acknowledging the fact are the real heros…..those who observe the world and make others notice things, with their deed, not their words. It’s a beautiful poem truly, and thanks for following me. 🙂
