The Cave

dear friend, please take note

these knuckles have not dragged

ground for millennia

our ancestors long ago

took their leave of the cave

and as we began to walk

upright we became quite

thankful for their efforts

many generations prior to ours

as the species progressed

we gained in knowledge

and advanced society

in the process

now I ask you, dear friend –

don’t you think it’s time

that you took leave of the cave

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

    • Oh yea we all need fresh air. It’s sad to be surrounded by the “stay in the cave” attitude but it’s still out there for those who don’t want to live in the 21st Century. It’s great to meet you!

  4. Hey John, great piece. Thanks for that, it reminded me of my first philosophy course in college. Great days. Oh and thanks for stopping by and following!

  5. Then who would watch the shadows on the walls with Plato?

  6. Well who chose to be in the cave how can we persuade them to leave?
    Your poetry makes me think.

  7. Excellent. Next thing we have to do is get out of the trees and down to earth! lol

  8. Hello John White. Thanks for liking by. I am resonating with your poetry, and thinking on Plato’s cave. 🙂

  9. hm… double hm…. triple HM… If I truly had to believe I started out as a knuckle-dragger, that would REALLY make me knuckle drag today…

Carry me over to that piano….I want to tickle the ivories and hum a few bars of different, far more melodious tune…

  10. I hate it when I press “enter” before I’ve checked for brain-blips.

  11. Ooooo. Good answer. And, “Sure!”
