All There Is

love has yet to come here and stay

but to keep loving is all there is

success hides itself from me

but to keep working is all there is

happiness is mysterious and elusive

but to keep smiling is all there is

life’s lessons are constantly hidden

but to keep learning is all there is

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. Otherwise, what’s the point? Well written.

  2. Cool view of life, expertly expressed.

  3. True words, I love this

  4. Reblogged this on Karen Stephen aka Doc Flamingo and commented:
truth sits patiently beneath the poet’s words
to keep reading is all there is

  5. I really identify, writing is such a pleasure. I don’t know where it will lead but I cannot stop doing it. Words coming into my head all the time.

  6. There will always be what could have been. But there is always all there is. πŸ™‚ Beautifully written.

  7. Learning is always the tough job of growing. I used to tell my daughter growing up is the toughest job in the world.

  8. The journey is more important than the destination. That’s how I interpreted your poem. Loved it! πŸ˜€

  9. Yep, guess I am on a high with at the moment, but let us go to the dark side. Frustrating or
the dreaded writer’s block. I read something from Stephen King, am not a fan but have respect, it was something like just keep writing even if you think it is bad, quite often you go back and read it maybe months later and think ‘Wow’ that is amazing, if anyone else does is another matter of course !

    • That’s amazing advice too. If we make writing a daily habit it will wake up that part of us like it’s never been before and eventually the words will spill out like water. Liking and disliking…well, that’s all so subjective, of course, but if anyone does like what you write, it certainly does add fuel to the fire.

  11. Like you said earlier, we can only go forward in time.

  12. Life is often hard to understand, but to keep living is all there is πŸ™‚

I had to πŸ™‚ Great piece!

  13. Yes indeed, John πŸ™‚

  14. You’re right John, it does seem to be going faster and faster. The older you get the faster it goes; I think I’m at light speed at present.

    Hello There,
Great poem! I like reading your blog. πŸ™‚
Ps. Reading poetry is my best time to pass time so I’ll be reading a lot of your poetry/blog !
    Best,
    LuisaF.

  16. Yet another great piece that speaks thy thoughts. Well done. πŸ™‚

    • As always, thank you, Sherina! Thou art far too kind! (Had too since you used the old English “thy” in your comment.) πŸ™‚

      • Love your sense of ability to read into text. … ..

Old English intrigues me and I had found it suitable for the moment. Thank you kind Sir, for I am not always very kind, loke any other female, I can be rather intolerable. .lol πŸ˜‰

        • Your use of the word “thy” clicked something and made me think Old English. It can be intriguing language. You’re welcome, kind ma’am and thank you. You seem rather tolerable to me. πŸ˜‰

  17. Hey wild site! Pretty awesome, and thank you for dropping by mine πŸ™‚
    Best!

Very nice; I love your use of brevity.

  20. So much truth in so few words! Beautiful.

  21. I love your play here with the reoccurring but to keep. Maybe it is because I too love playing with poetry structure and phrases. How true though! We must “keep” all there is.

  22. looove this. i identify SO strongly. thank you!
