Benefits of Youth

lovely smile

fat free

no cellulite

porcelain skin

bronze tan

bikini body

she’s young. she’s flawless

staring at all of us here

on her social media page

today 20 and untouched

by the ravages of age and life

that look of having lived

absent from her eyes

some tomorrow we’ll

revisit this young beauty

to find that she has lost

all the benefits of youth

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. I really like how you encapsule the fleeting benefits. Had you described her qualities, well those are unfading when good. Our youth fades though, and with it the benefits. Very nicely put.

  2. found her this morning
    in my mirror
    benefits of age
    wisdom
    lessons learned
    peering out
    eyes crinkled with
    life lived hard but
    well

  3. Lovely, and as usual, true as well.

  4. I can think of Mirror, anyone else?

  5. very nice – a profound thought explained using very few and brilliantly used words!

  6. Now that is all too true. Good job. Beauty is vain.

  7. I am so honoured you took the chance to read my poem! You are a brilliant poet and will help me write more poetry, thank you!

    • You’re welcome and thank you, Sophia! You’ve made my day. Of course, all writers gain a tremendous amount of inspiration by reading other writers and I’m sure I’ll gain a lot by reading yours. It’s great to meet you!

  8. I’m really glad as I presume you’ve got a lot more writing experience that I have.

    • I’m not sure really. I spent a lot of years dabbling and I would write only on very rare occasions but I never tried to be serious about it and make it habit. About two years ago I began to dedicate a lot more time to it and have sought a lot of feedback and it seems to be working though I have a long way to go. It is possible I’ve lived quite a few more years than you have too. lol
