a foil-crafted, framed picture,

two crossed pieces of lumber,

gold-encrusted necklaces,

large, black stones from the sky,

science fiction writers,

and perhaps strangest of all –

men worship many things

but fail to give thanks for

their greatest possession

and the thing they should

take the time to worship –

life itself

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. We take life for granted way too often… Unfortunately it’s true.

  2. Beautiful, John

  3. You’ve done it again: beautiful and full of wisdom.

  4. All too true at times. All to true.

  5. So beautifully said, John.

  6. It’s easier to look outward rather than inward at life itself. Great poem and true.

  7. Deep. True. Thought-provoking. Well said.
    Have a great week 🙂

  9. Eye-opening and well written, John. Have a nice week!

  10. I do worship life, but in a trinity: “way, truth, life”

    • Thanks! Provided we all take the opportunity to “suck the marrow out of life” it makes any and all differences between us a moot point. It’s great to meet you!

  11. so very true, without life all other worship would be moot… nice work, Michelle

  12. Liked it. The first stanza was cool, in that you listed different ideas and beliefs. Maybe what links religious ideas together is their common love of life and its mysteries.

    • Thank you! 🙂 That might be what links them together and there’s a chance that those beliefs also thrive because people need the company of like-minded individuals and the comfort provided by the religion itself.

  13. Powerful…hehe I especially like the ‘cattle’ part 😀 ; sound wisdom from the poem overall…..I’ve nominated you for a challenge, hope you accept:
