A One-Year Anniversary – of Sorts
Let me start by saying thank you to all of you for making this past year so absolutely incredible! The last 12 months on this blog have far surpassed anything I could have ever imagined and none of it would have happened without all of you!
Early in 2014, I put together a blog with the intention of writing a journal of my experiences as a writer covering everything from submissions and rejections (that could have taken a lot of typing) to poetry magazines and journals to writers from whom I drew inspiration. It just laid there for months.
In July of 2014, I decided it was time to just revamp the whole thing and start posting my poetry. I put up the first post on July 30th, 2014 to very limited fanfare.
To my surprise, I started seeing some activity:
- My first like came on that first post on day one from The Poet’s Billow
- My first follower came on the first day with Raluca Stoica doing the honors
- My first comment came from JustALuther on 8/5/14 on a post entitled “One Final Tear”
Now, here I am one year, 180 posts, 9209 followers, 6221 comments, 21,843 likes, and countless wonderful interactions with readers later.
Without question, the best and most rewarding part has been interacting with all of you in the comments. Getting your feedback, discussing interesting topics, learning that we all have things in common – all of it – has been an absolute pleasure!
Again, thank you all for making this first year so enjoyable and such a treat! I’m already looking forward to Year Two!!

That’s fantastic! How did you accumulate so many followers within a year? I just reached my 1 year anniversary and have 200 very important people that follow me. I guess you’re just that good. I enjoy your blog and look forward to your new posts. If you have any advice or constructive criticism I’d be happy to hear it. 😊
I’ve actually been pretty active in finding writers and poets that I like and following them, if for no other reason than to just say hello and introduce myself. It’s been a great way to meet people and connect. I would think the best advice I could give any blogger would be: post as often as you can on a schedule (or at least close to it), interact as often as you can with readers by liking their posts and especially answering their comments and just being as involved as you can be. In some respects, and this may sound a little strange, you have to be aggressively friendly in any social medium to get your name out there.
Thank you. You’re right. I’m most active on Google+ and have over a million views. But I’m on there all the time. I didn’t think of this the same way so thank you very much for the advice.

I know that feeling and I’m suffering through a bout of it now. I’m trying my normal routine of writing my way out of it – just write anything that comes to mind and keep writing to force my way out of it.
It’s a horrible thing to have, it makes you feel deserted somehow. I hope it wears off very soon for you. Keep doing what you’re doing. 🙂
If there was ever a time when writing just came out, spilled onto the page that makes any writer’s block that much more painful to bear. But…this too shall pass. 🙂
Ha! That would be how most of mine happens, but anyhoo! I believe thinking gets in the way sometimes, (hence all the typo’s) rather like when you’re lying wide awake in bed thinking about being wide awake. Fret not, I agree as with everything else it will pass. 🙂
Exactly! Over-thinking and trying to come up with a great idea can ruin it all. Just write something, anything and let it come. It will in time. 🙂
