Not There

they’re not there

looking down on you

watching you

guiding you

lifting you

exhorting you

following you

.

they’re not there

you are alone

you have come this far

under your own power

driven by your own will

there has been no help

a hand, voice guiding you

.

the voices you heard

were entirely your own

the help you received

was self-urging

you have come this far

under your own power

you’ve done this alone

.

you can do much more

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. This is so empowering John. Thank you so much for this. My heart was sinking. Seems like you saved it. Oh wait, it was me 😊

    Thank you 😊

  2. I like this.. this tells me that you are a lot like me πŸ™‚ and I hope you get to be a famous poet/writer some day.. I am so glad I met you..

  3. Wow, you have no idea what I’m going through in life right now but let’s just say I totally needed this. Thank you!

    • Thank you, Lynne! πŸ™‚ Those tough times come but we fight through. Somehow. πŸ˜€

      • Yeah. Not meaning this to sound religious, but it was almost prophetic. You never know what chord you will hit with a person on any given day. So thank you. πŸ™‚

        • Thank you, Lynne! πŸ™‚ Anytime someone says that something I’ve written is similar to what they feel or have gone through, it tells me two things: we’re all human with the same struggles and that they were kind enough to tell me they enjoyed it. That makes everything – the writing, the blogging – worth every minute. πŸ˜€

  4. Oh my god this is beautiful

  5. Love it. Even if it isn’t true, it’s good for motivation!

  6. I agree with the prior comment! This is so motivating and empowering ❀️

  7. Well, this could have been a much more graceful way to sum up how I felt after my assessment. Thank you for such beautiful words!

  8. Reblogged this on Billy in Blunderland and commented:
I need to reblog this also because I want it to be there, a couple of posts after my post-assessment post… this sums it up so much more gracefully than I’ve put it, and I know it applies to a lot of people in this blogosphere x

  9. But we are never alone! :-b

  10. A hymn to self-determination. Always a good thing, I applaud you.

  11. Very encouraging piece my friend. Inspiring and lets one know that self determined accomplishments are never out of our reach. Kudos galore πŸ˜‰ As always, I adore your pieces.

  12. Dont worry! Doing it ourselves and reaching where we want to reach is bliss! We fall but get up and walk. We learn a lot. That’s life. Btw, thanks for following my blog. God bless!

  13. Wow. John, you’re reading my mind. I feel like this so many times, even now. Thanks for this.

  14. Thanks for this beautiful piece John. I think we all have those voices wishing for our every ambition to be realised. I wish you the best on yours.

  15. Thanks for this. I can resonate probably for different reasons. Please not that my new blog address from Venusrise is: http//:Chevvy8.wordpress.com

  16. Hi John!!! I just wanted to say thank you for following my site. It is such an honor for me to be able to be connected with such a wonderful writer like you πŸ™‚ I have lots to learn from you and I will be looking forward to reading more of your pieces.

  17. Yes it is always us… But i feel some superior being nudges our mind to do it on our own…

  18. It’s always been a misconception this someone else assists..stands there with their feet planted…hand extended. But truth remains.most fear the dark holes of our deepest failures and strife. Most walk away until we pick ourselves back up. Our inner strength is more powerful than we know yet our inner mind warps it all into a slinky trolling down the stairs. Loved this one doubleu

  19. Wow. This is powerful stuff. Yes, sometimes you just have to give your self a big old pat on the back. We can get so caught up in our reverence for sources of power outside of ourselves we may end up giving too much away. Thank you for the inspiration!

    • Thank you, Leeby! πŸ™‚ That power to accomplish your goals or to come through a difficult time is inside you just as it is in all of us. We should all give ourselves a big pat on the back. πŸ˜€
