How Many

How many more steps do I have

and should I take them carefully

as though measured and sure

to insure solid footing

How many more thoughts will I have

and should they be the same focus

as though perfecting the topic

to insure solid understanding

How many more lines will I write

and should they be written simply

as though to exhaust a subject

to insure I’ve spoken my piece

How many more days do I have

and should I live them same-ly

as though measured and sure

to insure the next

How many are there

there is no way to know

but I will accept each

as though it were the last

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. Excellent concluding stanza.

  2. I say it’s time to go on an adventure. Be free. Live fully. Taste, touch, smell, stimulate the senses. And most of all, savor every second of it!!!

  3. It’s interesting how sometimes counting our minutes, or steps, or moments in time can lead us to wondering how many we have left? It’s through that process that we remember to take each as a blessing. We never really know.

relatable and well-said…live each day like it was your last

  5. Reblogged this on Karen Stephen aka Doc Flamingo and commented:
Wise words for this beautiful morning in Hawaii whose blue skies and softly undulating palms are perfectly content without a single word to express their pleasure in just being.

    • Thank you, Karen! 🙂 Oh…Hawaii!! What a beautiful place! It’s absolutely a sight for sore eyes. I could stare at the water, its depths and the color of the coral for days.

  6. Really like this piece, John. And not just because I have OCD. ;>)

  7. This is really good. It’s like a eulogy.

  8. We must take our steps carefully to insure solid footing. Thanks

  9. Great way of expressing how to treasure the precious moments we have!
