A Day Lost

neighborhood dogs

wandering from yard to yard

pissing and depositing

waste for the unsuspecting

crows squawking

from their perches

complaining that no one

has been out to

throw them their stale bread

I’m still in bed

despite more than half a day’s

sunlight having been spent

out there life goes on

in here it has yet to begin

importance is a self-

ascribed entity

it exists only because

we determine in

our own, frail minds

the value we will

place on a thing,

a place, an idea,

a job, a paycheck,

a life, a death,

a word, a thought

nothing is important

unless we make it
