My Dog Doesn’t Wipe Her Feet

There are things of which I am sure in this life:

One of us always gets there before the other.

Success is illusive and just a state of mind.

Crucial items will continue to hide from me.

Life takes meaning not from self love but from loving.

The internet only drops during a download.

Love isn’t about your heart it’s about needing.

Beating the remote adds life to the batteries.

Death’s not worth preparing for; life, however, is.

And despite training, my dog doesn’t wipe her feet.

About John White

I've written off and on my entire life. It took years for me to finally take putting words together seriously. Now it's not, nor does it ever feel, like work. Writing daily has become habitual. No day is complete without words having appeared on the page.

  1. John, this is exactly what I wanted to read right now. I am in that state of mind, you know. Thanks πŸ™‚

  2. This was great. Made me smile.

  3. And also, every time I’m late, there’ll be a lot of traffic on the road. Its instant karma. No matter how we look at life, we can’t plan every aspect of it. Awesome post! πŸ˜€

  4. That last part… Just the touh of comedy needed for the anxiety that comes with not having control…

  5. Universal certainties…it would seem. πŸ˜‰

  6. Excellent – and so true!

  7. I read this to my lunch friends (all in recovery) and they loved it. Especially the remote part.

  8. Good one! LOL! 😁

  9. This made me smile. Thanks.

  10. Haha..I thought only my remote works like that..😝

  11. Read it first thing in the morning and couldn’t stop smiling. Thank you for making my day awesome.

  12. Nice little dose of intermingled, common sense and chuckles, thanks! I constantly find myself pondering such things, in bed at night, when i ought to be sleeping.
    Things like:

The phone never rings when you want it to, then never stops when you’re in the bath, up a ladder, or driving. I won’t be answering, so leave a message!

Life is too short for sitting around and fretting about how short life is! Lol! πŸ˜‰

  13. “Success is illusive and just a state of mind” how beautifully said ❀

Loved every bit of this post 😊 So much meaning and depth, also, so much to learn 😊

  14. Death’s not worth preparing for; life, however, is.

I immediately read this line twice. You couldn’t be more right! So far this year I have lost three extremely special people and attended three funerals.
Thank you for the well written statement, very insightful and touching.

    • Thank you! πŸ™‚ In losing a loved one we’re reminded how precious life is. It’s a difficult time and one of life’s lowest points for many of us but it can remind us of what we should be focused on.

  15. This is simply magnificent! I live for these kind of poems!

  16. Enjoyed. Always refreshing. Good post.

  17. Boy that was clever!

“Crucial items will continue to hide from me”…welcome to my daily life!

    Cheers!

  18. I love the humor in this. This made my morning… “Success is a state of mind”
