Memory Field
at first glance this appears a maze
of granite, marble, grass
row on row of standing stone
etched with dates, names
flowers, crucifixes, clouds
.
under each, lies a life, a
death
.
the field brings the names
back, fresh to the mind
but does it do justice to
who they were or what
their time meant, the
events they witnessed, the
company they kept, the
memories they made, the
memories they brought here
with them to this field

Alive
None of what, none of whom,
Are now dead to me,
Will ever displace,
The importance,
Of those I live among.
Of my mind, of my past,
Their significant part,
Will always remain,
Part of who I am,
They brought me here,
Made me who I am.
Those here now, those about me,
Are now all to me,
They hold a place,
Of importance,
And within my embrace.
