Locked In
this room is still depressing
scratched hard-wood floors
covered in hair the dog shed
and that I’m too lazy to sweep up
windows that won’t open
a door to the outside screwed shut
far too much furniture
and a tendency to go from cold to hot
but it’s my sanctuary, my place
to hide, to think, to write,
I can’t leave or those other thoughts
will take me over, keep me away
from what I know I should be doing
I’m locked in partly by choosing
and partly for my own safety

Many people seem to find themselves in a similar situation…..some without choice. π
Thank you! π You’re right. Often we can focus too much on our own first-world problems and forget those who have greater needs than us.
I can so relate to this..((((hugs))))
Thank you, Carisa! π
Reblogged this on Ancien Hippie.
Thank you for the reblog!
once you find a home that copliments the kind of person you are and that you can feel most safe in , you still embrace it no matter the faults . At least that’s what I got from this .
Thank you! π That is certainly a part of it. You’re right. It’s great to meet you!
nice to meet you as well π
π
Right on the head of the nail, you landed. π
You are to be thanked, Sherina! π
I think the same thing…I can’t leave…but I should leave…but if I leave, I lose the words and the words lose me…back to the real world where people need me? Or stay here locked away with the words I need? It’s CRAZY! π
Thank you! π So true! If you leave that private, quiet place it’s possible you interrupt those thoughts and you may not get them back. It’s great to meet you!
Exactly! Great to meet you too! π
π
Those last two lines…
Great π
Thank you, Jocelyn! π It’s a pleasure to meet you!
Same π
π
Quite right…
Thank you, Michael! π
So accurate!
Thank you, Tejas! π
Sounded so much like. I like being locked up and be safe.
Thank you, Sherrie! π In some way, yes, just like that.
I can easily portray the whole room…….tangible writing
Thank you! π It’s great to meet you!
Ah! Laziness! I enjoy it sometimes!
Thank you, Hasmeet! π Procrastination can be fine. Why do today what can be put off until tomorrow? Long live laziness!! π
I think I’m liberated now that I don’t care about ‘the dog hairs’!!
Thank you, Taruna! π Oh, that’s terribly liberating! π
I can sooooo identify with this!
Thank you, Dionne! π
Sounds like me…
Thank you! π Who has time to clean all the time anyway? lol
You’re welcome
π
Arrrrr… So apt John. π
Thank you, Omooba! π
Like others I can relate this (maybe too much). Yet, in the end, I believe, we all need a sanctuary. It’s just a few who realize its importance to being and becoming. Awesome expression of this mixed-feeling need of place and the place of need.
Thank you! π It’s a strange feeling to need that place as refuge but feel locked in.
I need a spot like this! Light and Love, Shona
Thank you, Shona! π There’s nothing like having that refuge but I need to do some housekeeping in mine that I’m too lazy to do. π It’s great to meet you!
The flow throughout was amazing. Yay!
Thank you! π It’s a pleasure to meet you!
Aww. Likewise.
π
I could definitely relate to this and somehow I’m scared by this… but a real pleasure to read!
Thank you! π It can be good and bad to be locked in, no doubt. It’s great to meet you!
Home sweet home
Thanks, Gail! π Home sweet home and often home dusty I-really-should-do-some-housework home. π
Wow. Another good one. Reading that makes me see how easy it is for someone to become a shut in. I myself have some of that personality that I think I learned from my mother. I have to be careful that I don’t let myself get into that rut but your poem is just the way that it starts to happen.
Tony R
Thank you, Tony! π It is a recipe for becoming a shut in, you’re right. I have to fight through that rut often. It’s a pleasure to meet you!
Solitude is a welcomed sanctuary sometimes. I have to be careful not to get to comfortable there though. Enjoyed the piece.
Thank you! π Solitude is necessary to recharge the batteries on occasion. It’s great to meet you!
